Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU)

With over 275 degree programs, outstanding research, and international partnerships, Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) shapes academia and society. In close collaboration with the FAU Brand Office, we fundamentally reimagined the university’s digital presence in 2025 as a central platform for studies, research, and knowledge transfer, and as an overarching hub for approximately 1,100 faculty- and department-specific portals.

The goal: to move from a standard institutional website to a platform that showcases FAU in all its strength. A modular design system with clear design rules, flexible content modules, and reusable components enables consistent content while allowing sufficient autonomy for individual portals. Minimalist typography, a structured color system, and a consistently documentary visual language provide a common visual framework for FAU’s diversity.

Special attention was paid to user guidance for prospective students, researchers, and staff. Clear entry points, contextual links, and structured detail pages support diverse information needs. The result: a website that showcases FAU as a high-performing, internationally oriented university—device-independent, clear, accessible, and future-proof.
